Alumnae Networking - Proposed Projects

This page is reserved for the use of the alumnae mentoring program as it develops. For now, we have just posted some ideas.

What is the SSA Alumnae Network?

An alumnae network is something that many colleges, greek organizations, and some high schools have. The general purpose is usually to put recent graduates in contact with alumnae who are already established in careers. Usually mentoring programs are developed this way.

We don't have any new SSA grads (sadly), but we still have SSA grads completing undergraduate and graduate studies, as well as getting started in new cities, jobs, etc. There are also plenty of opportunities to continue the Academy's tradition of service to our communities and each other. What follows are a few possible directions it would be nice to see a strong alumnae network go. Of coures, they are only ideas, and those of you who opt to really become involved in this would truely shape the network.

Mentoring young alumae

Some form of networking program could be developed for the youngest alumnae out there. Interested in working in advertising? Maybe there is an SSA alum out there that knows a little about that. Moving to the Bay Area? Hey, some of us are already here! There aren't many of us, well not thousands, but we can try.

It would also be great to open the network to current SSA Chicago students, or another high school. Offering a support network to help young women get off on a good foot in whatever path they decide to take in life is very important. This could even be useful to SSA members who are looking to change job paths, go back to school, or want information for their own children.

Volunteer Activities

A large part of the Academy was a dedication to service, both within the school and larger communities. There has never been a greater need for people to come together help one another. Since the Network does not solicit money from members, maybe small groups can be organized to volunteer in a food drive, literacy program, or any number of other activities.

Monthly Lunch

While we hope everyone eats lunch more than once a month, wouldn't it be nice to maybe have lunch once a month with area alumnae. Because we are so spread out this might be asking a bit much, but you never know til you try!
